Hi incurable travelers,
we continue the story of the first evening in Lisbon, along the roads from the Praca dos restauratores leads to another focal point of Lisbon, namely Rossio area, which in reality is nothing more than the square Don Pedro IV, which overlooks the theater work, building between the ‘600 and’ 700 was the palace of the Inquisition.
We will come across numerous restaurants with a strong tourist vocation (which we always try to avoid), and in the two most typical places to taste the real Ginjinha, ie a base of black cherry liqueur, which taste reminds a little sherry, which is served in plastic cups and only after answering the big question com ou sem (with or without) cherries!
After having tasted it in both shops we have decreed that one of Ginjinha Sem Rival, Rua das Portas de Santo Antao # 7, is the best in Lisbon!
Our evening exploration continues through the district of Lisbon called Baixa, one of the most glamorous areas consisting of a grid of wide streets where there are several shops and commercial activities, and ends in the Carmo area – Chiado, which we’ll talk later about the arrival at the chosen restaurant for dinner, Cervejaria Trindade Rua Nova Da Trindade 20, a highly touristic place, but in some ways missed being inside the ‘former monastery of Trinidade, whose first traces date back to 1294 and by the end of 1800 place the brewing, hence the name, sadly now ceased activities.
You enter a very large room with many tables and even with a little bit of confusion, but missed because the walls you can admire the famous colored tiles, tiles, depicting the elements of nature and the seasons.
The cuisine reflects the history of Lisbon and Portugal where the cod plays a leading role, legend has it that the Portuguese housewives know 365 recipes for cooking cod, one for each day of the year; co-stars are the seafood and fish in general, definitely a good alternative.
A warning that we feel we can give is to remember that the snacks that you find already at the table are not included in the price of the covered so take advantage if they find them defendants in the account, including bread, otherwise recommend them to take away from the waiter.
After dinner and saying goodbye to the friends Claudia and Francis went back, by foot, to our hotel and I must say that despite the late hour we felt safe walking to downtown Lisbon animated by many Lisboners.
So it has passed our first half day in Portugal and if you want to come with us for a walk to learn more about Lisbon, you just need to read the article: A stroll trough Lisbon; while the beginning of the story of our trip to Lisbon, you can find it in the article: Two incurable travelers in Lisbon.
